Informal Worship

Our 5pm service in the Centenary Room attached to the main church building - is relaxed, informal, and relational. It’s a great chance to meet with others as we seek to know God better.

We enjoy modern worship music, opportunities for interactive discussion and questions, etc on whatever it is we’re exploring in the Christian faith that day. There is never any pressure to do or say anything, yet we find people quickly get involved in the discussions due to the open and warm atmosphere of the gathering.

Regulars often comment that they love the chance to look at the Bible together, to think through things for themselves and to hear the perspectives and experiences of others.

This is a warm, friendly, supportive, and growing group where people are encouraged to come just as they are. We find relationships deepen naturally due to the relational, informal, and relaxed style and format of the evening.

We seek to grow in our love for God, and for one another (in times of joy and in times of trial and sorrow) and to serve and share the love and hope of the risen Jesus Christ to all in our community. We believe in and desire to be led by the Holy Spirit in all we do.

We offer a warm and happy welcome with hot drinks and snacks before, during & after the service! Feel free to arrive 20 minutes before the start time for coffee, tea & chat.

St John the Evangelist, Dormansland is an Anglican church located in the heart of Dormansland village.

We are situated in Surrey, but our location is right on the cusp of Kent and West Sussex. We are a part of the United Benefice of Lingfield & Dormansland. Our church is a welcoming community that offers a range of services and events for all ages. We believe in creating a loving and inclusive environment where everyone can feel at home. Come and join us for worship and experience the warmth of our church family.

The church is sited at the junction of the High Street and The Platt near the south end of the village of Dormansland. It was built in 1882 as a chapel of ease to Lingfield but became a parish very soon after.

It was designed by Arthur Blomfield, not one of his best, and originally comprised a nave, chancel, north aisle, and north and south transepts. A vestry was added at the northeast corner in 1889 and the south aisle, tower (ground storey only) and a small room at the west end in 1914. This was converted for use as a chapel in 1972 and became St Andrew’s Chapel; furniture designed by David Nye. At the same time an assembly room, known as the Centenary Room, was built on the north side together with a kitchen and lavatories, designed by Adrian Gale.

Ian, our Vicar, is happy to meet and chat about any aspect of church, faith or indeed life. He is also happy to chat and work with anyone who wants to work for the good of our community as a whole and already has good links with the Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre, The Victoria Sports and Social Club and the Lingfield Chamber of Commerce. Please see the contact page for his details.

For any other enquiries, please contact the Church Parish Office, open Monday, Tuesday 5pm-7pm & Saturday 8:30am-11:30am.

We are delighted that you have decided to check out our church.

We are ordinary folk with all of the back stories, quirks and foibles you'd expect but we come together as two worshipping communities at St Peter & St Paul’s and St John’s with two big things in common:

We are learning how to love God with all our hearts

We are trying to love our neighbours at least as much as ourselves

If you are new then we would love to hear from you, please get in touch here.

Meanwhile, allow us to introduce you to some of the team:
